The Power of Gratitude (Thursday Thoughts: 29 June, 2023)

It’s time for my weekly round-up of tips for better mental health! Each week I share a handful of things I’ve come across that I find interesting, intriguing and inspirational, plus I tell you about anything interesting that’s coming up on my weekly podcast, Let’s Talk About Mental Health, or just generally in terms of my work. So… let’s talk!

Hello Talkers! 👋🗣😃

As we journey through life, it’s easy to focus on all the stuff we might feel isn’t going right; that daunting to-do list that never seems to end, or those dreams that always seem just out of reach. But what if I told you that shifting your perspective slightly could make a world of difference? Today, I’d like to talk about the simple, yet transformative practice of cultivating gratitude.

Gratitude isn’t just about saying ‘thank you’ for the big wins in life; it’s about genuinely appreciating the small, seemingly insignificant moments that we often take for granted: the soothing sound of rain on a window, a comforting cup of tea, a kind word from a friend. By shifting our focus from what’s lacking in our lives to what is abundant, we can alter our mindset, nurture positivity and bolster our mental health.

So here is one simple, actionable tip for you to try this week: Start a Gratitude Journal. Each day, write down at least three things you are grateful for. They don’t have to be monumental; in fact, the beauty of this practice lies in cherishing the ordinary. The more you do it, the more you’ll notice the abundance of positivity around you. I do this each morning (along with setting intentions for the day) and it shifts me into a more positive and optimistic mindset.

Remember, your mind is like a garden; the more you nurture it, the more growth you’ll see!

Until our next talk*, have a great week!
Jeremy 😃
