Handling the ‘I Don’t Wanna!’ Mindset (Thursday Thoughts: 8 June, 2023)

It’s time for my weekly round-up of tips for better mental health! Each week I share a handful of things I’ve come across that I find interesting, intriguing and inspirational, plus I tell you about anything interesting that’s coming up on my weekly podcast, Let’s Talk About Mental Health, or just generally in terms of my work. So… let’s talk!

Hello Talkers! 👋🗣😃

I don’t want to write this newsletter this week.

It’s Wednesday June 7, the day before it’s due to go out, and I’ve got a headache combined with feeling exhausted after a rough sleep. In short, I am tired and grumpy.

And yet I have commitments. Sure, most of them are commitments I’m in control of since I work for myself (hooray!) but they still loom over my head nonetheless.

So my approach today is this: go back to basics, and focus on what matters. Take this newsletter for example: by considering what’s more important to me, in terms of either getting this done to remain consistent or doing it to add value for those of you who read it, it’s the value-adding that matters more to me, so I felt like taking this little ‘moment of raw honesty’ piece was a good way to do that (plus it feels a bit like free therapy for me to process my feelings this morning!).

The point of the story is this: when in doubt, return your focus to what actually matters to you instead of focusing on what ‘needs’ to be done!

So my question for you this week is: what actually matters to you? Let me know in the comments!

Now, without any further ado… greetings and salutations, and a very warm welcome to another newsletter. I hope you enjoy my quick snapshot of my favourite things this week — hopefully at least one of them will make you smile/feel inspired. Have a fantastic week!

Jeremy 🙂
