Celebrating Milestones (Thursday Thoughts: 5 October, 2023)

It’s time for my weekly round-up of tips for better mental health! Each week I share a handful of things I’ve come across that I find interesting, intriguing and inspirational, plus I tell you about anything interesting that’s coming up on my weekly podcast, Let’s Talk About Mental Health, or just generally in terms of my work. So… let’s talk!

Hello Talkers! 👋🗣😃

Yesterday, my podcast Let’s Talk About Mental Health turned 4.

Four years. Can you believe it? It feels like only yesterday that I set out on this journey with no idea of what I was doing and no real plans beyond a few episodes, just to see whether or not this podcasting thing felt right for me. And now here we are, marking the fourth anniversary of my beloved podcast and with my 200th episode about to be released this weekend. To say I’m honoured and grateful would be an absolute understatement, so thank you to each and every one of you.

Time truly flies, especially when you’re taking strides, no matter how small, towards a purposeful destination. Today, let’s talk about the unmatched joy of celebrating milestones and the beauty of embracing every step, however slow it might seem.

Every milestone, big or small, is a testament to persistence. It’s so easy to get lost in the dizzying excitement of big achievements and forget that they’re often built on countless tiny victories, setbacks, and lessons learned. Slow progress, with its twists, turns, and pauses, can sometimes feel discouraging. But remember, it’s still progress. A step forward, no matter how tentative, is better than standing still.

And now, a special simple tip for this special week: Reflect on your own personal milestones over the last four years, or even just the past year. You don’t have to have made massive accomplishments; maybe you read a few more books, learned a new recipe, or simply managed to look after your mental wellbeing in challenging times (ummm, we did go through an actual pandemic where the entire world shut down for ages… so making it through that with your sanity mostly-intact is definitely a win!). Celebrate these moments, for they are your stepping stones and they will play a role in the way your future unfolds.

As I mark our podcast’s fourth year (it’s ours, not mine), let’s toast to every hurdle we’ve overcome, every story we’ve shared, and every moment we’ve learned from. Slow progress is a journey of resilience and determination, and every step is a story worth celebrating.

Thank you for four incredible years, and here’s to many more steps together… however big or small they may be.

Until our next talk, have a fantastic week!

Jeremy 😃
