Are you juggling too much? (Thursday Thoughts: 18 April, 2024)

It’s time for another weekly round-up of tips for better mental health! Each week I share a handful of things I’ve come across that I find interesting, intriguing and inspirational, plus I tell you about anything noteworthy that’s coming up on my weekly podcast, Let’s Talk About Mental Health, or just generally in terms of my work. So… let’s talk!

Hello Talkers! 👋🗣😃

Do you ever feel like you’re trying to juggle too much? You know that feeling, where it’s like you’re attempting to keep all those different bits of life in the air: work, relationships, health, trying to remember if you watered the plant or if it’s on the cusp of heading to the afterlife… It’s a challenge, isn’t it? One minute you think you’ve got it all sorted, and the next, it feels as though it’s all slipping through your fingers like jelly, leaving you wondering how you’re going to clean up all that mess.

The truth is, life is a bit like juggling jelly. No matter how skilled we become, there’s always going to be something that doesn’t quite want to stay put or co-operate.

And that’s OK.

The beauty of life isn’t about achieving a perfect balance (because let’s face it, who really has it all perfectly balanced? Nobody, that’s who!), but it’s really about doing the best you can and learning to laugh when the jelly hits the floor… and, most importantly, knowing how to pick it back up again (or, at least, clean up the mess as best you can).

So here’s my tip of the week: Embrace the chaos. Embrace the wobbly jelly. Instead of striving for perfect balance, aim for a ‘good enough’ balance. Set aside a little time each week to reflect on what’s truly important to you and where you want to focus your energy. It’s about prioritising what matters most and giving yourself permission to let the less crucial stuff take a back seat (or even fall off the table entirely). Remember, it’s not about keeping everything up in the air; it’s about choosing what things to keep juggling and which ones can be safely tucked away for another day.

Until our next talk,

Jeremy 😃

PS: Don’t ask me why I’m apparently obsessed with jelly this week. I don’t even like the stuff!
