It’s time for another weekly round-up of tips for better mental health! Each week I share a handful of things I’ve come across that I find interesting, intriguing and inspirational, plus I tell you about anything noteworthy that’s coming up on my weekly podcast, Let’s Talk About Mental Health, or just generally in terms of my work. So… let’s talk!

Hello Talkers! 👋🗣😃
Have you ever found yourself lying awake at night, playing the ‘if only’ game?
If only I’d taken that opportunity, if only I’d said what I really felt, if only I’d made a different choice… it’s not exactly a fun game, is it? In fact, it’s a form of self-torture that can eat away at your self-worth. It’s a game where the rules are murky, and no one really wins.
Regrets can be sneaky little creatures, whispering tales of missed chances and wrong turns, often making us feel as though we’re stuck forever in a maze of what-could-have-been.
But here’s a little secret: every path we’ve not taken, every word we’ve left unsaid, has contributed to the rich tapestry of our lives. Our missteps, as much as our leaps forward, shape who we are. Instead of viewing regrets as burdens, we can choose to see them as signposts, guiding us towards deeper self-understanding and clearer direction for the future.
So here’s my tip of the week: Reflect objectively on the lessons you’ve learnt, instead of focusing on regrets. Each night, write down one thing you regretted doing or not doing that day, and then transform it into a lesson learnt. For example, if you regret not speaking up in a meeting, the lesson might be, “My voice and ideas are valuable, and I will express them more confidently.” This practice shifts the focus from what you wish you had done differently to how you can grow from the experience. Turning regrets into lessons is a powerful way to foster a mindset of growth and resilience. It allows us to move forward with grace, accepting our past selves and using our experiences as stepping stones rather than stumbling blocks. Plus it’s better than beating yourself up over something that can’t be changed!
Until our next talk,
Jeremy 😃
