It’s time for another weekly round-up of tips for better mental health! Each week I share a handful of things I’ve come across that I find interesting, intriguing and inspirational, plus I tell you about anything noteworthy that’s coming up on my weekly podcast, Let’s Talk About Mental Health, or just generally in terms of my work. So… let’s talk!

Hello Talkers! 👋🗣😃
Prepare yourself for some philosophy.
I was listening to 80’s music in the car yesterday (the soundtrack of my childhood) and Time (Clock of the Heart) by Culture Club started to play, and it led me to become a bit reflective and existential (which is always a healthy thing to do when operating a motor vehicle at 100 kph along windy and bumpy country roads…!).
You see, I’ve recently finished reading Boy George’s latest memoir Karma and, without going into too much detail, it’s interesting to listen to these songs as an adult and now knowing more of the back story of what was going on at the time, and just how many of the messages in Culture Club’s music meant something very different to what they might seem at face value.
Because that’s the thing about truth. We only ever know what people want us to know, and so the supposedly-black-and-white notion of ‘truth’ is potentially a lot more grey than we might think.
The reason why I’m sharing that is that I think we all need to be a bit less black-or-white in our thinking, and we also need to take time to ask questions and understand others rather than just making snap judgements based on a small snippet of information. Because the truth is often far more complicated than we might first think.
Could you imagine what the world would be like if we did started taking the time to really communicate?! 🤯
So here’s my tip of the week: Ask questions and really listen. Less talking and more listening is precisely what this world needs right now.
Until our next talk,
Jeremy 😃
