Being Kinder to Yourself (Thursday Thoughts: 20 April, 2023)

If it’s Thursday then it must be time for my weekly round-up of tips for better mental health! Each week I share a handful of things I’ve come across that I find interesting, intriguing and inspirational, plus I tell you about anything interesting that’s coming up on my weekly podcast, Let’s Talk About Mental Health, or just generally in terms of my work. So… let’s talk!

Hello Talkers! 👋🗣😃

How kind are you to yourself?

It’s a question I find myself more and more, probably as a result of ongoing conversations with my therapist and a renewed focus on how I balance time for my work with time for myself to make the most of life, in whatever shape of form that might need to look like given whatever is going on.

Take the last week for example. As I’ve mentioned previously, I’ve had COVID for over two weeks now and even though the worst of the symptoms have cleared up I’m still dealing with exhaustion and fatigue like I haven’t experienced in a very long time. I initially tried to just push myself to push through it (that’s a lot of pushing) but then I found even the idea of doing that to be exhausting… so, instead, I’m choosing self-kindness and giving myself permission to do the bare minimum in order to allow plenty of space to heal. Why? Because treating yourself unkindly is going to do harm to yourself… and that’s the opposite of what you need for better mental health!

So my question for you this week is: how can you be a lot kinder to yourself? Let me know in the comments!

Now, without any further ado… greetings and salutations, and a very warm welcome to another newsletter. I hope you enjoy my quick snapshot of my favourite things this week — hopefully at least one of them will make you smile/feel inspired. Have a fantastic week!

Jeremy 🙂

PS: In my latest episode, about routine, I talked about my digital reflection tool that helps me focus on my wellbeing in just 10-15 minutes a day. If you’d like to buy a copy, it’s only $12.50 AUD (about $9 USD) and you can click on the link below to buy it now… the good news is that it’s a ‘buy once use for forever’ kind of tool, so that makes it an absolute bargain!
